Welcome to the eighth edition of our LinkedIn newsletter! NIGHTINGALE aims to advance prehospital life support and triage with innovative technologies and digital solutions.
In this newsletter, we focus on our 2nd Full-Scale Exercise and reflect on our 1st Full-Scale Exercise that took place earlier this year. We also look at recent and upcoming events.

NIGHTINGALE Goes to Italy for the 2nd Full-Scale Exercise
This week, our NIGHTINGALE partners are heading to Savona, Italy as part of our 2nd Full-Scale Exercise. While the FSX gets underway on Saturday, many partners are already onsite engaging in preparation activities.
NIGHTINGALE’s 2nd Full-Scale Exercise
On Saturday, 5 October, the NIGHTINGALE Project will conduct a large-scale emergency response exercise in Savona, Italy, testing the innovative technologies developed as part of the NIGHTINGALE toolkit.
The event is organised and hosted by the Ministero dell’Interno in collaboration with Azienda Sanitaria Locale N.2 Savonese and will see a diverse group of volunteers, including members of civil protection agencies, such as emergency medical services, fire brigades, and police, as well as civic volunteers, participate in the exercise.
Up to 110 simulated casualties will be triaged and treated using NIGHTINGALE tools, showcasing the project’s potential to revolutionise emergency response. The total number of participants in the field, including victims and First Responders, will be over 300.
2nd International Workshop
On Monday, 7 October 2024, NIGHTINGALE will be hosting our 2nd International Workshop on Enhancing the capacity of the First Responders (FR) to save lives in Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI) and Disasters.
Invited experts will speak about their experiences of handling mass casualty incidents in their respective countries. Discussions will cover challenges they faced and aspects that could enhance their action. Roundtables guided by NIGHTINGALE user experts will focus on user needs, and NIGHTINGALE technology experts will describe what the NIGHTINGALE toolkit can offer.

NIGHTINGALE 1st Full-Scale Exercise
Earlier this year, the NIGHTINGALE Project conducted the first large-scale emergency exercise of the project. The FSX took place in Villejust, France on Sunday, 9 June 2024.
NIGHTINGALE Publishes Highlights Video from 1st Full-Scale Exercise
The NIGHTINGALE Project has published a video showcasing the highlights from the 1st Full-Scale Exercise that took place in Villejust, France. The volunteers deployed the NIGHTINGALE toolkit in two distinct Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) scenarios at the CSP Training Centre, Villejust.
What’s New With NIGHTINGALE
InnoHealth Forum 2024
From 20-21 September 2024, the NIGHTINGALE project was represented at the InnoHealth Forum 2024 in Larissa, Greece. Dr Spyros Athanasiadis from the I-SENSEGroup/ICCS showcased some of the innovative technologies developed as part of the NIGHTINGALE Project.
The annual Innohealth Forum showcases the latest cutting-edge technologies and solutions transforming healthcare services. During the exhibition, healthcare and medicine professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and policy makers have the opportunity to showcase their innovations, network, collaborate and shape the future of eHealth.
New Publication: Dronar: Obstacle Echolocation Using Drone Ego-Noise
NIGHTINGALE Partners FOI published a paper titled Dronar: Obstacle Echolocation Using Drone Ego-Noise. This paper proposes a method for obstacle detection using the sound that a drone naturally emits. The idea in this paper is to utilise this ego-noise for obstacle detection, being the first to perform practical experiments of this.

Upcoming Events
26 Jornadas Municipales Madrid, 25-26 October
This is a biannual meeting, organised by SAMUR-Civil Protection, and serves as a platform for professionals and volunteers in the emergency sector to exchange knowledge, experiences, and advancements in disaster management. NIGHTINGALE partners, Magen David Adom in Israel will be representing the project at the event.
