NIGHTINGALE is presented at the Disaster and Emergency Medicine Congress
May 9-12, 2023
After a pandemic-induced pause for four years, the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) held an in-person congress on 9-12 May in Killarney, Ireland. The NIGHTINGALE partners are attending the event and discussing new developments and technologies for prehospital care and emergency management.
The WADEM scientific programme explored innovation and best practices globally in disaster medicine, prehospital care, and emergency management in complex humanitarian crises. The NIGHTINGALE partner, the Centre for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid, and Global Health (CRIMEDIM), presented the research results in the poster session.
The NIGHTINGALE poster captured the research on evidence-based improvement, education, and advocacy in emergency and disaster risk reduction. It was presented by Eric Weinstein and Joseph Cuthbertson, summarising a recently published article on the scoping literature review in the European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery. The poster was available throughout the congress and presented to participants, including physicians, first responders, and disaster and emergency medical practitioners.
In addition, the NIGHTINGALE partners participated in the sessions on new technologies in disaster and mass casualty incident preparedness and response. Luca Ragazzoni and Marta Caviglia from CRIMEDIM taught the pre-congress NO-FEAR workshop “Innovative Training Methods in Disaster Medicine: A Virtual Reality Simulation Training for Prehospital MCI Management”.
