NIGHTINGALE Roundtable and Participation in ECTES 2023
The third NIGHTINGALE roundtable with end-users took place on the 5th and 6th of May prior to the 22nd European Congress of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ECTES) hosted by ESTES in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The roundtable was a perfect opportunity for end-users to review the progress made and discuss recommendations for the technical partners for the next phase of the project. On the first day, the participants focused on updating the end-user requirements to reflect the new concept and design of some components in the NIGHTINGALE Toolkit. The discussion on individual tools continued in dedicated working groups, which developing and tailoring their recommendations for a specific device or solution.
The second day was dedicated to future planning for small- and full-scale exercises that would help to test and validate the NIGHTINGALE tools and solutions for triage and emergency response during mass casualty incidents (MCIs). UPO-CRIMEDIM led the discussion on the validation activities and presented an update on the operational key performance indicators and benchmarks that can be used to test technological solutions in MCI prehospital response. In the final sessions of the roundtable, the planning of the upcoming small- and full-scale exercises was discussed, presenting an update on the venue and MCI scenarios.
Following the roundtable discussion, the NIGHTINGALE partners participated in ECTES 2023. ECTES brings together experts in the field of emergency medicine to exchange ideas, discuss the implementation of new treatments and consider new ways of organising work. The NIGHTINGALE project booth was part of the ECTES exhibition space, where participants could learn more about the NIGHTINGALE toolkit and contribute to the project by participating in a survey.
The NIGHTINGALE project was also presented to the participants in the Disaster and Military Medicine section of the congress. The presentation focused on technological advancement, the future of triage and disaster management during mass casualty incidents, and the specialised training of medical practitioners in disaster and emergency response.
The NIGHTINGALE special session included the following presentations:
- The future of MCI/disaster management: The NIGHTINGALE project by ESTES – European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery
- Available technology for MCI/disaster management and beyond by ASTRIAL GmbH
- How I see sudden onset disaster mass casualty incident triage in 10 years? by CRIMEDIM – Center for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid and Global Health
- Triage in MCI/disasters: How I do it? by Magen David Adom and ESTES – European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery
